Psychiatrist Input

Some concerns benefit from medical as well as psychological support.

As part of our collaborative model, Healthcase Psychologists can arrange input from a consultant psychiatrist to work alongside your psychologist where appropriate.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specialises in mental health. Their involvement may include assessment, diagnostic clarification, and where indicated, the review and management of medication. Working in this way means your psychological therapy and any medical care can be coordinated, rather than managed in isolation.

When psychiatrist input may be considered

  • Where a diagnosis would benefit from medical assessment or clarification.

  • Where medication may be a helpful part of your care, alongside therapy.

  • Where an existing medication regimen would benefit from specialist review.

  • Where a coordinated approach between your psychologist and a medical specialist is appropriate for more complex presentations.

How it works

Your psychologist can discuss whether psychiatrist input may be suitable for your circumstances and help coordinate a referral. Any decisions about diagnosis or medication rest with the treating psychiatrist and are made with you as part of your care.

A referral from your GP is generally required to access psychiatry services and any associated Medicare rebate. Our team can help you understand the process.

Every session is tailored to the individual. We believe good care starts with being heard.
